Chapter 25 Takeaways:
Chapter 25 is about speaking at special occasions. Toasts, eulogies, acceptance speeches, introductions, and after-dinner speeches all have distinct qualities. The timing, tone, and content of speeches must be appropriate for the event. This chapter goes over the general content of each type of special occasion speech, which is helpful because I’ve never thought of how to prepare a speech for a special event. I think it’s important to consider how speaking at an event will make an audience feel, such as appealing to emotions in a speech of inspiration or making people laugh during a toast. I’ve experienced speaking at large school events, a wedding, and a funeral. However, most of these speeches were pre-written passages, so I have little experience in preparing speeches for special occasion. I think it’s essential to know the basic qualities of these types of speeches in order to be successful in speaking at a special occasion.
