Chapter 13 Takeaways

The main takeaways from chapter 13 are the importance of preparing an outline and the different styles of speaking outlines. I found this chapter extremely helpful because I think a good outline is essential for delivering a successful speech. I struggle with making outlines too detailed, and then it ends up being more like a script. However, I had never heard of a speaking outline versus a working outline. I think that incorporating both of these outlines into my speech preparation will be useful because I can have a detailed speech organized in the working outline, and a concise version to glance at in the speaking outline. Usually I make a sentence format outline, but I think I can improve in my extemporaneous speaking ability if I cut it down to a keyword outline. Overall, I think this chapter highlights the importance of creating a quality outline and how to separate the working outline from the speaking outline.
